Srikanto Acharya
Srikanta Acharya primarily sings contemporary Bangla songs reflecting the ethos of his times as well steeped in the rich musical heritage of the past. Srikanta received formal training in Rabindra Sangeetfor ten years. He also took training in Table, his first love from Ustad Ali Ahmad Khan for a brief period. Overall he has learnt his music from avid listening of all kinds of music and in this sense he is essentially a self taught musician.
1996, Srikanta's year of appearance as a professional singer saw the release of Moner Janla, a compilation of Bangla songs of yesteryears and Hey Bondhu Hey Priyo, a compilation of Tagore songs. 1998 saw, Ek Jhank Pakhi, Srikanta's debut solo album of his own very basic songs. A series of awards followed with his basic album hence. In 2000, Brishti Tomakey Dilam fetched him the SnowCem Anandabazar Best Puja Album of the Year Award. In 2001, Nodir Chhobi Aki received the Parle's Anandabazar best Album and Andralok Best Male Vocal Award. Ghuri (2004) fetched him the National -Insurance Anandabazar Best Puja Album of the Year Award and Roddur (2006) got him the same award (Detol -Anandabazar Sharad Arghya) this year.
Among his albums of Rabindrasangeet Jibon Chhobi (2004) received the best Rabindrasangeet Alpha Music Award 2004.
Significantly Srikanta's song in Rituparno Ghosh's film Titli fetched him the Best Male Playback BFJA award in 2003 and rendition of a Tagore song for Mrinal Sen's movie Amar Bhuban fetched him the ANANDALOK Award for the Best Male Playback Singer in 2004.
Srikanta performs for audiences across West Bengal and India. His international tours include touring of the United States in 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2007; England and Scotland (2003), and Australia, Singapore, Kuwait (2005), Canada (2006), and Dubai (2007).
Srikanto also presents”Addaye Srikanto” a Sunday morning musical radio show on friends 91.9 FM, an ABP house radio station.
